3 Things to do with your Jamboard, now that it’s end-of-life

As the Jamboard's software support sails into the sunset on September 30, 2024, you might be wondering, "What now?" Fear not! Your Jamboard still has plenty of life left in it. So, what do you do with your old Jamboard?

It's still a pretty good offline whiteboard 🤷‍♂️

Post-September 2024, your Jamboard becomes a trusty offline whiteboard. Perfect for doodles, notes, or brainstorming sessions. Just remember to update it before the big day to make the most of its offline powers.

Keep it in operation using touch forwarding 👆

Hook up your Jamboard to other devices and get an interactive touchscreen display for all your presentations and collaborations. A solid idea is to buy a cheap Chromebox and mount it behind the Jamboard. Plug it in using the HDMI and USB cable provided, and voila - you have a functioning touch-enabled Chrome OS device.

The Chromebox would recognise the camera and speakers on the jamboard as a normal set of peripherals - so you can keep using them in meet calls - and as a bonus, noise cancellation will work better than if you were using the native Jamboard meet functionality!

Digital Signage 📊

The Chromebit is discontinued, but the ASUS fanless chromebox is a great alternative. Stick it on the back of the Jamboard, load it up with Google's kiosk licencing, and have it run as a managed kiosk for digital signage. It's a great high-resolution display, so whether that's showing dashboards, news, events, or general information, it's a good way to make use of the display.

On the other hand, Google, in collaboration with Avocor, have released two brand new innovative devices designed to enhance the experience of the Jamboard.

The all-in-one Google Meet devices, Desk 27 and Board 65, are designed for team collaboration and hybrid working. These devices are part of Google's continued commitment to improving digital collaboration and boast an array of advanced features:

  • Infinite canvas, which provides users with a boundless space for creativity and organisation
  • A wide range of templates to streamline workflows and safe time
  • Enhanced diagramming capabilities, for better visual communication
